Playa Bonita is nice. Playa Del Oro is ok. We stay at The Reef. We have a 40 ft dp. We fit in the spaces easily with room to spare. Lots of room to manuever. Full hook ups , some with 50 amp service. You can still get a front beach front and there is a place to dry camp if you want for 5 bucks a night. The Reef is a little farther out. (about 3 miles from the center of town) Laundry and showers along with a 4 Star restaurant in the park. There is a web site for The Reef and Playa Bonita. Not sure about Del Oro.

In a survey last week by RvTravel, the question was asked Have you ever had anything stolen from your RV or campsite?.
An amazing 25% of 1500 people surveyed answered yes.
If you haven't taken my survey regarding RV crime in Mexico you still have two days left. So far no one has reported themselves as being murdered. Good news.
Close though. I got shot at by a mexican we think was from Michiocan, that was in Las Vegas when I was at work but I should get half credit no?

Oh I agree. don't much care for Las Vegas in the winter. We head south to Mexico in January. People laugh when I tell them it gets cold here in Las Vegas in the winter and give me "it's colder where I come from" bit. Probly is but it's too cold for me in Vegas so its south to Mx.

You can feel it in the air. We moved from the Oregon/Washington coast back down to Las Vegas a couple of weeks ago. Definitely feel the change. Couple of side trips in the rv to Arizona, then SOB in January.

Typical Day In Mexico
Ok, Gonna give this one a try. Today I don't care about the best route, fuel, politics or violence. Just curious what a typical day is like for you in Mexico when at your favorite spot.
For me. Cup of joe, sitting outside watching the sun come up. Check the internet news, Then a 2 mile jog down the road gets the heart pumping. Then about an hour walk with our dogs on the beach, The hour walk sometimes stretches to two or three, depending on how many people we stop and talk to. Its lunch after that. The burrito guy/ girl has made it by the rv and thats usually lunch with a cold beer. Sometime during this, the schrimp guy shows up so its schrimp and steak bar b que later for dinner. Afternoon is spent visiting other friends in the park or minor cleanup repairs on the rv. Another hour walk on the beach with the dogs. Friends over for an afternoon social outside the rv, and dolphin watching.
Bar B que. Finally a good glass of wine with good seats for the show at the end of the day. We usually sit and watch the sun go down over the water. I've traveled all over the world. Not many sunsets like the ones in Mexico. Camera optional. The next day..........too far ahead to plan.

RE: Ladder bike rack
Used one for my two bikes for about a year before the rubber holders wore out. for the price I would classify it as ok. That bad news was that I had to bungee the handlebars and one time the bungee broke and the handbrake on one of the bikes scratched the hood of my towed vehicle.
We now use the blue ox bike rack. The one with the slightly higher carrier that mounts to the receiver hitch. Works fine.

Patience on the u joints and a longer flexible hose for your gun.
For the front kingpin zerk fittings . Take them off. Take them down to your local auto parts store. Get some "L" shaped ones that allow a horizontal feed instead of a vertical insertion.
Had to do that to my dp. I didn't know the zerk fittings came off till I tried. Works great.

We gave up on the plastic latches. We figured we only needed the doors to stay shut when we were moving. the wife bought a curtain "tension" rod, the expanding type. When were on the move she uses one to keep the doors closed. when we stop, the rod is put away

silversand pretty much has it right, but you can have some success with situational awareness on a smaller scale. Alot of people have the awareness but don't always act on it. How many of us pause to take a look around the area now before we park our rv's to go inside a store? I'm bettin all of us. A large gathering of people could spell trouble or could be a nice local soccer team. The fact that you even thought to evaluate the situation is a start. I had the benefit??...... of being a policeman, military and civilian for 34 years so I don't trust alot of people in general.(terrible I know,but) I still get nervous and take a hard look around before I enter a bank. While you're in Mexico and anywhere else, play the "What if, game" with different scenarios. what would I do if this happened?
Have a plan. Here's another we used at work. JDLR,,,,,Just Don't Look Right. You can be nice and polite and a great rv'er and still be suspicious of people and situations. And if you see a situation that just don't look right. Leave. I'm sure you can think of many more. I for one will not stop traveling. Mexico in January. China next October.

I posted this merely to inform. I rv to Mexico and travel to other parts. I don't live there or spend more than a couple of months a year there, so I have to consider myself a tourist.
I don't have any horror stories about Mexico nor do i want any. Gotta figure there are a few more rv'ers out there like me. Not all of us on this forum live in or rv frequently to Mexico, but we still go.
This new twist with the tourist areas being involved changes the focus just a bit. Lot of victims out there. Trying to not to be one of them just like here in the U.S.

Take the article any way you want. Go, don't go. to Mexico. It's a personal choice.
Its merely meant to inform.
I traveled to Ecuador and Guatemala last year. Egypt and Turkey the year before and have lived in foreign countrys where terrorists roamed daily.
The message is the same. Be aware of your surroundings and be as careful as you can.

Retired Air force here. We routinely stay at military FamCamps. You will need to contact the FamCamp directly about the occupancy at the Camp itself about the sponsor not being present. Next , you might want to contact the Entry Controllers for the Installation about entry requirements. (That would be Military Police, Security Forces etc.) Each military Installation has different requirements. Air Force Installations require military ID. Army Post required ID and vehicle Decal registration. Each may have different escort/sponsorship requirements.
The majority of Installations will more than likely require a military sponsor to get you on the Installation, So its two issues completely apart from each other. 1. Getting on the Installation and 2. Staying at the FamCamp. You need to call.

Thanks for the reply guys.
Wolfe: With the exhaust brake activated, the "window is displaying "2" when the exhaust brake is activated with or without the headlights on. After pressure on the brakes, the window will display "6" and power to the accelerator pedal returns.
Tenn: The exhaust brake does not release (with headlights on) when I flip the rocker switch to off. The exhaust brake de activates (with headlights on) only after applying brakes with a quick pressure
code: I will try that. This thing only happens with headlights/tailights on. i will also take a look at the exhaust brake light bulbs.
Thanks gentleman. If any other ideas come up I would be happy to hear them

Electrical Problem Exhaust Brake
I have a 2003 Monaco dipl/with a 330 cummins, allision trans and an exhaust brake activated by "rocker switch" and then activated/deactivated by accelerator pedal. Probly simular to many of you with diesels and exhaust brakes.
The problem. When traveling downhill with the exhaust brake, the brake will not deactivate when pressure is placed back on the accelerator pedal until I first step on the air brakes pedal. Until I step on the air brakes, there is no power available to the accelerator pedal.
This happens ONLY when I have the headlights/tailights are on. Never when the tailights are off.
Hasn't been much of an issue cause I don't drive at night and I run my fog lights while operating in the daytime as running lights. Family emergency required me to put some long miles in (night driving) getting home from the Oregon Coast.
I'm guessing that its a problem/short in the brake/tailights . Anyone had this happen or have a fix for the problem
